Day 9 – From Pines to Painted Rocks: Flagstaff to Cameron

Distance covered: ~374 km
Time riding: 6 hr 38 min
Route: Flagstaff → Prescott → Jerome → Sedona → Cameron, AZ

☀️ Kickstart in the Pines

We rolled out of Flagstaff just after 7:00 a.m., greeted by crisp mountain air and sunshine cutting through the tall pines. First stop: breakfast at Denny’s in Camp Verde for some old-school comfort food — nothing fancy, just fuel for the ride ahead.

A quick Starbucks break in Prescott gave us a caffeine boost, and it was there we stumbled on the Three Sisters Consignment shop. A quirky local find — vintage gear, rustic charm, and some fun desert-themed treasures.

🏍️ Twisties and Views on AZ-89A

The ride from Prescott to Jerome via AZ-89A was one of the most exhilarating so far. Tight switchbacks, elevation drops, and sheer cliffside views made for a thrilling challenge. Every rider in the group had a smile locked in behind their helmet.

We paused for a few moments at a scenic overlook near Jerome to soak in the sprawling Arizona views — layers of red, gold, and green rolling toward the horizon.

🍽️ Sedona’s Hideaway

Lunch was something special: a stop at Hideaway House in Sedona, perched over the red rocks. Their patio views are unbeatable, and the food hit the spot — artisan sandwiches, fresh salads, and a cold drink to cool down after those mountain passes.

Sedona itself felt like riding through a postcard. The contrast of the lush greenery against those bold red formations is unreal.

🛣️ Final Stretch to Navajo Land

With the sun starting to dip, we pressed on for the long final leg: 122 km of straight, wide-open desert highway to Cameron Trading Post. We rolled in just before 7:00 p.m., a little sunburned, a lot dusty, and completely satisfied.

The Cameron Trading Post was more than just a place to sleep — Navajo art, jewelry, and rugs filled the shop. It was a beautiful place to end the day and appreciate the deep cultural roots of the region.
